Lufthansa Group introduces Starlink Wi-Fi, A320neo to get it first
From 19 August 2026, Lufthansa Group is rolling out high-speed internet from Starlink on board its aircraft, with a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo being the first to receive it on a scheduled flight. By 2029, the entire fleet of roughly 850 aircraft across the group is to be equipped with the system.

Lufthansa Group has announced the launch of a new in-flight Wi-Fi service called "Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi", powered by the Starlink satellite system. According to the group, it is currently the fastest available in-flight internet connection for passengers, in many cases said to be faster than a typical home or office connection.

The system is based on low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology operated by Starlink, which Lufthansa Group describes as a leading provider in this field. The connection is meant to let passengers stream video content, use cloud services and run other data-intensive applications during the flight.
Rollout timeline
- The new Wi-Fi system will first be operated on a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo starting 19 August 2026.
- It will then follow on aircraft of Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines.
- Other airlines within the group are also currently working on rolling out the technology – ITA Airways, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines and Eurowings.
- The group's entire fleet of approximately 850 aircraft is to be equipped with Starlink Wi-Fi by 2029.
Lufthansa Group says this step makes it the largest airline group in Europe to equip its fleet with modern high-speed internet, and that it is pursuing the project at an especially fast pace. According to the group, the introduction of Starlink Wi-Fi is part of broader investments in new aircraft and in product and service innovation across the entire travel chain.
Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group, said that with the launch of the new in-flight Wi-Fi service, high-speed internet becomes a firm part of the travel experience across all classes and all airlines within the group. He said that by 2029, all of the group's roughly 850 aircraft will be equipped with the technology, adding that the group's product promise no longer ends at the seat or the meal offering – today, connectivity is also part of a premium in-flight experience.
The new "Lufthansa Group WiFi" portal lets passengers connect to the internet and also includes a code of conduct developed based on customer surveys, meant to reflect the wishes of most of the group's clients. Passengers are asked, among other things, to always use headphones when playing audio and video content, not to make voice or video calls, and not to stream live video from on board. The Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi service is sponsored by Mastercard, which was also a partner of the previous FlyNet portal.
According to the group, the new internet offering will be free for members of the Miles & More loyalty programme and for Travel ID users, across all travel classes.
