SAS orders 18 A330neo aircraft to expand its route network

Scandinavian carrier SAS signed a firm order for 18 Airbus A330-900 aircraft in Copenhagen on 30 June 2026. According to Airbus, the aircraft will allow SAS to expand capacity on busy routes and open new destinations as part of its ongoing international network expansion.

The agreement was signed by SAS CEO Anko van der Werff and Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales, at a ceremony in Copenhagen.

Van der Werff said the aircraft combines excellent operating economics with improved environmental performance and will play a key role in SAS's long-term fleet strategy, with the carrier expecting it to deliver a better customer experience and greater travel flexibility.

De Saint-Exupéry, speaking for Airbus, called the A330-900 an unmatched benchmark for efficiency and versatility in its class, adding that the 18 new aircraft will give SAS the best operating economics per seat as well as seamless operational continuity with its existing Airbus fleet.

Airbus also highlights the A330neo's new Airspace cabin, designed to offer passengers and crew more modern onboard features and greater comfort.

Like other Airbus aircraft, the A330 family can fly on a fuel blend containing up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with the manufacturer aiming to achieve 100% SAF operating capability by 2030.

Airbus also stated that by the end of May 2026, the A330 family had logged over 1,950 orders from 133 customers worldwide.
