Europe to have 62 airports with US routes by 2027
According to current flight schedules, 62 European airports in 25 countries will have direct connections to the United States in the first half of 2027, an 11% increase over the same period this year, when the figure stands at 56 airports. However, the 2027 summer schedules are not yet final.
The strongest growth in US destinations is seen in Spain, which will reach eight airports with direct flights to the US in 2027, matching current leader Italy. Spanish routes to the US will be served from Barcelona, Bilbao, Ibiza, Madrid, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Santiago de Compostela and Valencia.

London Heathrow remains Europe's largest hub for transatlantic flights, expected to offer around 5.3 million one-way seats in the first half of 2027, roughly 23% of total capacity between Europe and the US.
Seven carriers will fly from Heathrow to 32 US destinations. British Airways holds the largest share of capacity at 41%, followed by American Airlines at 19%, Virgin Atlantic at 17% and United at 13%.
Among the ten largest European airports, seat capacity to the US is growing fastest at Paris Charles de Gaulle, up 6% year-on-year. From May 2027, Alaska Airlines will launch a new route from Seattle, and in March Delta will start a new daily flight from Austin, giving Paris direct connections to 24 US airports.
The expansion of transatlantic routes fits a long-term trend in which US airlines are targeting not only the largest European hubs but increasingly also seasonal flights to smaller tourist and regional destinations. The arrival of the Airbus A321XLR is expected to further accelerate this trend.
